The Grates - Gravity Won't Get You High

Grates07mas.jpgHere comes the next grate thing out of Australia.  Forget Wolf Mother – forget the Veronicas, because the Grates are finally here.  Now I’m hoping they win an ARIA

I know, you’ve heard (read) me talk about these guys before.  About 2 years ago I heard a song of theirs on the International Music Feed.  I caught about the last minute of a song called Message, and I immediately wrote down the name of the group and started my search.

Nothing!

Finally, they released their domestic 4-song EP called The Ouch. The Touch.  I was satisfied for about 10 minutes.  And now, their first full-length CD is available and it gets better and better every time I hear it!

In order to appreciate Gravity Won’t Get You High to its fullest, simply skip the first song.  Listen to the rest of the album until you get a good feel for the band, and THEN try this track.  I was honestly turned off when I first heard it, but now that I’ve listened to this CD about 75 times, I love it!

The music is bouncy pop-punk with a bubbly vocalist and groovy beats.  She kills me with her "Ha!  Ha!" and "Grr!  Grr!" thrown throuhgout the CD.

To give you a chance to hear them, take a look at the video for 19, 20, 20:

OK, so now that you feel like you know them, go check out some more!

Also, if you were smart enough to buy the EP, you’ll be familiar with 2 tracks, Trampoline and Sukkafish.  I’m a little miffed that their video/single Message from the EP didn’t make it onto this full-length CD (along with Wash Me) because it (they) would certainly fit.  But I am very happy with this purchase and haven’t stopped listening to it since I put it in my car.  I let someone borrow it overnight and I had withdrawals!

~O~O~O~O~o because it’s just awesome!
