Burning Abigail

If you read my review on the Scott Julsen band, you know I went to Pink E’s to see Burning Abigail to support a friend of ours. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect, but I ended up really enjoying these guys!

This is a large stage presence with seven members in the band, and all of them are extremely talented. BA is headed up by singer/guitarist Scotty McWalter. His cast of characters includes Tiffany McNeil on additional vocals, Jack Salomone on bass, Adam Schonberg on percussion, Joe Brennan on drums, David McGuire on mandolin/harmonica/vocals, and Tom Marsh on keyboards. Every instrument is well placed and blends nicely with the rest of the band. Marsh is incredible, but don’t let me take anything away from the rest of the group.

I was lucky enough to meet Scotty a few weeks ago to discuss his influences. Though he mentioned such talents as Dave Matthews, I can’t tell you to expect to see a Dave Matthews rip-off band here! Scotty has done an incredible job of melding his jazz, country and R&B influences into a very unique and creative sound that gets people moving.

There was about a 50/50 mix of originals and covers, and I have to compliment them on the great harmonies on all songs. Tiffany gave a great rendition of Sarah McLaughlin’s “Train Wreck” and I really enjoyed the very different version of the Rolling Stone’s “Sympathy for the Devil” (which is my favorite RS tune). I have to say, this was a very enjoyable show!

Check their website for future gigs, and make sure you get out and see them. Next chance to see Burning Abigail is 8/26.
